IRAS said flower garland sales are taxable supplies, and that goods and services tax applies to the full value of garland sales, not just the portion retained by the nightclub.

Nightclubs to pay S$6.8 million in taxes and penalties for under-declaring garland figures

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) has imposed over S$6.8 million in taxes and penalties on eight nightclubs for improper tax declarations of flower garland sales.

“The late 2000s into the 2010s was an incredibly exciting period. Nightlife was booming, genres were evolving rapidly, and there was a real sense of experimentation,” said Mr Milan.
